Further Portrait Drawing/Final Pieces

After experimenting with drawing expressionist portraits in my sketchbook, and creating a large scale drawn/painted portrait, I decided to carry on further with this on canvas and large scale. A lot of the work created was made on smaller canvases, exploring how to make portraits basing these loosely on my own face from memory, the previous Bukowski design and a stencil deign of Lou Reed and other musicians I am interested in. Here are examples of the preliminary drawings before I made larger work.

The patterns in my work shown below came from previous experimentation with drawings involving shape, line and color. Using simple shapes such as circles, triangles and repeating lines along with bold color I felt complimented the expressionistic and primitive drawing style.

I also created stencils mixed with abstract painting, which I feel bridged the use of collage and drawing nicely by creating yet another way to make portraits.

This large piece was based on previous smaller designs on canvas, and loosely based on a photograph/stencil I had of Jim Morrison. I also included phrases and numbers within this piece such as the dates of birth and death, to give more detail to a quite simple design.
