On the 10/11/16 I attended a crit in the Shaun project space within the University of Sunderland. Work by Giulia Suma and Lizzy Hannan was shown. I was especially interested in Lizzie Hannan's abstract paintings, which were made up of round fluid lines and layers of acrylic paint. Natural, organic colours were used alongside the strong black lines, creating a fluid motion within her work which I enjoyed and found very visually interesting, almost like Jackson Pollock's pre drip painting work. Below is one of these pieces, titled Organica III.

I have also recently visited the Laing gallery, and looked at the ‘Out of Chaos’ exhibition. As part of this exhibition, work from German Jewish artists was shown, created around the time of the holocaust. Some of the portraits as part of this exhibition were especially powerful. Classic methods of creating portraits were abandoned, focusing instead on harsh brush strokes and rough application of materials. Showing deep emotion within the work. Which may inspire me in future to draw some of my portraits alongside using paper collage. I could not take images of specific pieces for copyright reasons, but below are general images of the exhibition.
